elementor - v3.22.0 - 26-06-2024 *\/\n.elementor-widget-text-editor.elementor-drop-cap-view-stacked .elementor-drop-cap{background-color:#69727d;color:#fff}.elementor-widget-text-editor.elementor-drop-cap-view-framed .elementor-drop-cap{color:#69727d;border:3px solid;background-color:transparent}.elementor-widget-text-editor:not(.elementor-drop-cap-view-default) .elementor-drop-cap{margin-top:8px}.elementor-widget-text-editor:not(.elementor-drop-cap-view-default) .elementor-drop-cap-letter{width:1em;height:1em}.elementor-widget-text-editor .elementor-drop-cap{float:left;text-align:center;line-height:1;font-size:50px}.elementor-widget-text-editor .elementor-drop-cap-letter{display:inline-block}<\/style>\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lately, we&#8217;ve noticed more and more often that customers have the idea that their material automatically sounds better on record.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unfortunately, that&#8217;s not the case &#8211; good source material will always sound warmer and rounder on record than digitally, no question about it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unfortunately, vinyl is a &#8220;physically preloaded&#8221; medium whose laws do not forgive certain mistakes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s not that difficult to create a good mix if you learn to listen and understand your equipment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have found that the main reason for &#8220;unsatisfactory&#8221; mixes is poor monitor speakers &#8211; or the room in which they are set up.<br \/>\nIf they are too close to the (unprocessed) wall, too many high frequencies will be emitted and the mix will sound too muffled.<br \/>\nIf the room is cut unfavorably (e.g. aspect ratio 1:2 or even 1:1), &#8220;standing waves&#8221; will form in the bass range, making the image in the lower frequencies spongy.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The result: either hardly any bass, or the mids and highs are boosted to make the mix &#8220;transparent&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The same applies to &#8220;home mastering&#8221;: the industry likes to sell you devices and plug-ins as the &#8220;definitive&#8221; solution for mastering &#8211; but the only tools are good ears and experience&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-87242a1 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"87242a1\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;background_background&quot;:&quot;classic&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f6caba9 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f6caba9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">A QUICK DO'S AND DON'TS LIST<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-087242f elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"087242f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>1. avoid digital overdrive at all costs (those nasty red lights&#8230; and creeping ear fatigue).<\/p>\n<p>2. mix the crash cymbals down.<\/p>\n<p>3. make the bass drum a little louder than you actually think (or make alternative mixes).<br \/>\nAbove all, don&#8217;t turn the bass or exaggerated mids\/treble in or out on sampled bass drums!<br \/>\nThe punch is not in the bass range!  <\/p>\n<p>4. use a de-esser on the vocals = compression of the high-frequency &#8220;S&#8221; peaks without affecting the rest of the signal.<\/p>\n<p>5. compress the bass a little more until it sounds even (analog peak meters help with leveling).<\/p>\n<p>6. set your plugins so that you can bypass them without hearing a change in volume &#8211; just a change in sound.<\/p>\n<p>7. carefully compress vocals a little more so that all words are easy to understand and there is a &#8220;natural&#8221; balance in the sound.<\/p>\n<p>8. don&#8217;t screw around too much (throw away your 10-band plug-in EQ &#8211; 4 bands are usually enough.<br \/>\nI know, the &#8220;big&#8221; producers always say: &#8220;Turn it all the way to the right&#8221; &#8211; but remember, they&#8217;re talking about analog equipment! <\/p>\n<p>9. break more rules (like no. 7, but not no. 1).<\/p>\n<p>10. A\/B compare your mixes with commercial releases.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0fe1c1a e-con-full e-flex e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"0fe1c1a\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;background_background&quot;:&quot;classic&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a92c94e elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"a92c94e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">THE EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d7a582e elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d7a582e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>1. good source material (like the actual sound of the musician and the performance) is more important than the type of microphone.<\/p>\n<p>2. a good channel strip (preamp, EQ, compressor) is just as important as the microphone itself.<\/p>\n<p>3. good converters are just as important as channel strip and microphone.<\/p>\n<p>4. converters and cables (analog and digital) are more important than the audio software.<\/p>\n<p>5. your monitor speakers are at least as important as everything mentioned above, because you have to judge everything described above through their &#8220;lens&#8221;.\nFor example: If your monitors are too treble-heavy, you&#8217;ll mix everything rather muffled.\nIf the bass is spongy, it takes weeks to figure out what really makes the bass tight and crisp &#8211; because nothing sounds tight and crisp, even if it is!  <\/p>\n<p>6. mix your tracks together analog if possible.\nOr mix your tracks really quietly (at 24bit the resolution is easily sufficient to run a track at -20dB) and pull up the master channel&#8230; <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MIX FOR VINYL Lately, we&#8217;ve noticed more and more often that customers have the idea that their material automatically sounds better on record.
